Playgrounds

There are loads of playgrounds in The Hague.  You'll probably have one within a few minutes' walk from your house (check out http://www.denhaag.com/ for locations), but be warned - most of them won't have baby swings.  So if you have a toddler who likes to be swung, you'll want to visit the following:-

Sandy Park - huge, sandy playground with tons of great equipment for children of all ages.  Swings, amazing 'fort' climbing structure, boats, 'wobbly' safari jeep, smaller train climbing frame for toddlers...plus lots and lots of sand to dig in!  In the summer you'll usually see the ice cream man from around noon, so bring some coins as it's difficult to resist!  Lots of trees around the outside of the park, picnic tables and a skate park for older kids and teenagers.

Frederik Henrikplein - very popular gated playground, 'soft' artificial surface, swings, climbing frame with slide, seesaw, roundabout etc.  There isn't any shade, however, and this park does get extremely busy at times - particularly after school (from around 3pm) so you may have to wait a while to use the equipment. Right next door to Bagels & Beans (see Family-Friendly Restaurants).

Sunny Court - lovely little community playground, hidden from view and safely tucked between rows of house.  Recently renovated and now includes all-wooden equipment including swings, a 'fort' climbing frame with slide and lots of trees to climb and hide behind.  Nice and shady in the summer, bark chippings to soften the inevitable trips and falls.

Oostduinlaan (near Shell HQ) - great little park, hidden in the woods (popular with dog walkers but they aren't allowed in the playground) and right by a duck pond.  Sandpit, good equipment for toddlers as well as older kids, lots of grass to run around on.  Access off Oostduinlaan or Wassenaarseweg

Westbroekpark - lovely playground just inside Westbroekpark (near the restaurant).  Limited shade, but lots of equipment including a flying fox/zip wire, climbing 'fort' and seesaws.
